Small locally-owned businesses may be more expensive than the likes of Coles and Woolworths, but they provide a service that Coles and Woollies don't. They provide a sense of community. Also, the money you spent at locally owned stores stays in the community. They're the type of people that will know your name and treat you as a person, rather than just another person coming through their check-out.

In my community, over the past 10 years, I have seen many corner stores shut down. Now my closest corner store is actually further away than Coles. And I find it very sad that these people are being forced out of business because of the big players. Some of these people have owned their shops for years. And yet they just can't compete with the huge supermarkets.

Please support your local store. When you do, you support your community. And what kind of a price can you put on that?
